Home Sweet (Temporary) Home
Greetings from Lindale, TX...
About a month ago, we rolled back through the gates of the Mercy Ships campus in Lindale, TX. In February, when we left Lindale in the middle of a blizzard, we definitely didn’t think we’d be back so soon. As He often does, God had different plans. Lindale welcomed us back with gorgeous spring weather, and the Mercy Ships staff welcomed us back with a beautiful, freshly renovated home.
A new home, a new normal...
After spending over three months in transition mode, living out of suitcases, we were tired. When we walked into our four bedroom cottage on the Mercy Ships campus surrounded by giant oak and pine trees, I was pretty emotional. Sure, this is not what we had planned or where we had planned it, BUT GOD (there’s those words, again) has supplied all of our needs—mental, emotional, physical, spiritual.
We are still in our waiting period, anxious to see what God does next. As of right now, we will be spending our summer here in Lindale. The Africa Mercy (our future ship home), is still in the Canary Islands, but will be entering dry dock for some much needed repairs over the summer. This is not a safe or suitable place to live as a family, so all of the families will be relocating until these repairs are completed. The anticipated date for the Scace family to make our way across the Atlantic is in September. The Academy (the school onboard), will be beginning classes October 4, and anticipating over 30 students with more to come. The ship will plan to sail back to Senegal in January 2022 to finish the field service cut short in March 2020.
While we are here, we have made ourselves open and available to Mercy Ships to help in any way that is needed. The girls are finishing out their 2nd and 3rd grade school years fully homeschooled. They have made some really great friends and are looking forward to meeting more children who will be joining them on the ship. Jeff finished working for his former company and I am still doing telemedicine. Caleb celebrated his second birthday and is loving the extra time to play in all the dirt and rocks we are surrounded by.
Trusting His plan...
As we tell our story of our Mercy Ships journey thus far, we are met with a lot of, “I’m sorry” or “I can’t believe this is happening to you!” We couldn’t disagree more. Though our journey is not unfolding how we would have planned, we know God’s plans are always better. We don’t want to be anywhere else than in the center of His will; be that in Africa, Spain, or Lindale, TX.
Prayer Requests...
Please continue to pray for us during this time:
- Wisdom for Mercy Ships as they navigate COVID precautions, travel restrictions, and adding a new ship
- The Global Mercy (Mercy Ships' newest ship) will be finished quickly
- We will be open and used by God during this time of waiting
