The Sad Goodbyes...

Greetings from Magnolia, Texas...

A lot has transpired since our last post.  Our big adventure that began as an idea has started to unfold.

The Details

We closed on our house December 9, and were graciously blessed with the opportunity to stay through our leave date from the buyers (Thank you, Doug and Donna). We said goodbye to our four legged fur babies. Our amazing friends took them to their temporary home in Virginia (Thank you, Reynolds family). The girls had their last day of school with the best teachers and friends we could have asked for (Thank you, Magnolia Heritage Academy). I finished my last day of work with my incredible team at the CISD Health and Wellness Clinic. We have been packing, purging, planning, getting vaccinated, and so much more. We are now trying to take a short breather as we usher in the Christmas season and daily remind ourselves to return our focus to the reason we started this in the first place; our calling in Mark 16:15 to, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”

Reality Sets In

With all the busyness and excitement ahead, there is creeping in from time to time a sadness, especially for the girls. Saying goodbye is not easy. Leaving a safe home in a beautiful neighborhood with fantastic friends and very comfortable salaries is hard. We occasionally wonder if we are making the right decision. As these thoughts creep in, that famous phrase, “But God”, quickly follows. He continues to confirm through small and large ways that we are on the right path. A few days before we said goodbye to our cats, I came across this passage in Luke 18:29-30, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times more in this time and in the age to come eternal life.” We have been reading it frequently to remind ourselves that what we give up now will be redeemed and then some. When we fix our eyes on eternity, the things in our little world grow strangely dim.

Next Steps

So, the next stop will be Lindale, TX, at the Mercy Ships International Training Center in early January. The “To Do” list between then and now is daunting. It is full of a lot of work and some more sad goodbyes. Please keep us in your prayers; specifically:
-Comfort for the girls as they say their hard goodbyes
-Ease with the packing, moving, storing process
-Safety and protection as we do all of this during a pandemic
-In all we do, remind us daily why we are doing this.

Thank you for continuing to join us on this adventures, and Merry Christmas!
